Knowing how to make a tasty hot chocolate is key to survive the cold winter months.

To make sure you’re not missing out on any fun whilst vegan, you’ll find here three ways to make a mean hot chocolate.

Of course, feel free to mix them up to suit your personal tastebuds!

Those are the quantities for one serving. Add everything into a mug and put it in the microwave.

Obviously, you can use a saucepan instead, but I much prefer to save myself the cleaning trouble, especially if I’m only making one cup.

No Sugar Hot Chocolate

  • 1/2 tsp unsweetened cacao
  • 1/4 to 1/3 tsp cinnamon (according to your preferences)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla (alternatively you can use vanilla flavoured milk to skip this step)
  • 3/4 to 1 cup of vegan milk (use one with a taste you enjoy, I like to use hazelnut or coconut milk, you can also use almond if you like how it tastes), the quantity depends on the size of your mug.

Stir everything into your mug and put it in the microwave for a minute or so until it’s nice and warm.

The milk you use is important as there is no sugar to cover the taste of it. I wouldn’t recommend soy milk for it as it tends to inhibit flavours.

Feel free to get creative. You could also add a bit of ginger and allspice to make it more Christmassy.

If the no sugar part is too much of a shock compared to what you’re used to, add a sweetener of your choice and ease yourself in.

The One That Tastes Like Nutella

  • 2 to 4 squares of vegan chocolate (depending on your preferences)
  • 3/4 to 1 cup of hazelnut milk (depending on the size of your mug)
  • A sweetener of your choice if your chocolate isn’t sweet enough

Put everything into a mug and in the microwave for a minute or so.

Stir the warm cup to make sure the chocolate has melted nicely.

It’s a very simple combination but it’s very tasty!

The Peppermint Hot Chocolate

  • 2 to 4 squares of vegan chocolate (depending on your preferences)
  • 3/4 to 1 cup of coconut milk (depending on the size of your mug)
  • 1/2 tsp of peppermint syrup

Put everything into a mug and in the microwave for a minute or so.

Stir when the cup is warm to melt all the chocolate.

This one is not for everyone but it’s my absolute favourite.

I hope you enjoy your hot chocolate curled up in a nice blanket. You can also try them for brekkie with some tasty vegan pancakes.

It’s the best part of the season!
