This is my go-to recipe to make quick and easy vegan patties at home.

It only requires 4 ingredients that everybody has at home: oats, onions, garlic and beans. If you don’t have beans, no worries, keep on reading to see what you can substitute them with.

Vegan Patties Instructions

Put all your ingredients in your food processor and blend until it forms a paste that sticks together. If it’s too dry, try adding water, a small amount at a time. Don’t over blend it, the texture is more interesting to chew on if it still has a few chunks in it.

If you don’t own a food processor, you can smash the beans and cut the onion and garlic into tiny pieces and mix everything together. If you can, consider investing in a food processor for the next time you want to recreate this recipe. It doesn’t have to be expensive and it makes life easier for many recipes.

Decide on the shape and size you want your vegan patties to have and start moulding them. Try to be regular in the amount you take for each so that their size is consistent.

Cook them in a pan on medium. You can use oil, I didn’t need it with my non-stick pan. Cooking time will vary depending on your patties shape and size. Mine were more on the thicker side so I cooked them for 10 minutes on each side.

Meal idea: I served mine in a burger with vegan mayo, ketchup, sliced tomatoes and baby spinach.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of beans (you can also use chickpeas or lentils, whatever legume you have on hand)
  • 1/2 cup of oats
  • 1/5 onion
  • 1 garlic clove

This is the basis of the recipe to keep it as simple as possible. If you feel confident with the recipe and enjoy experimenting with food, feel free to add ingredients to spice it up.

A few ideas to try: soy sauce, ketchup or tomato sauce, paprika, cumin, etc.
